An excerpt from one of my favourite books that I’ve read recently: Bossypants by Tina Fey. A recommended read for all! I love that she can put humour into such a colossal problem to really drive the point home and highlight the fact that the standards society has put onto women are truly ridiculous. Way to go, Tina.

“Every girl is expected to have caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall ass, long Swedish legs, small Japanese feet, the abs of a lesbian gym owner, the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama and doll tits.

The person closest to actually achieving this look is Kim Kardashian, who, as we know, was made by Russian scientists to sabotage our athletes. Everyone else is struggling.”

DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Large Tiled Mirror. Made by Sarah from The Thriftress Using fifteen Dollar Store weathered framed mirrors (see more of her huge mirror here). I posted the smaller $10 Pottery Barn Knockoff Mirror by Dollar Store Crafts here. The tutorial for the Large Tiled Mirror is at Dollar Store Crafts here.

At the rate I’m going it looks like I’ll have to do a DIY project everyday this summer to get through them all! This would make for a great piece above any bed and can match just about any room decor. You could also try painting the frames around the mirrors as well to give it a different look. Hopefully the dollar stores in Canada carry some mini mirrors too!

Truebluemeandyou: DIY Inspiration: Apartment Therapy writes: “Throw together a few outdoor cushions, drape some mosquito netting over a branch, string up an inexpensive Moroccan lantern…”

Who knew something this beautiful and serene could be so simple to throw together. This is exactly what I wanted to do all last week when it was 25 degrees out all week. Oh, student apartment woes…

Bleach painting on textiles DIY via A Beautiful Mess

So easy! I’m going to make one that says “he who seeks beauty will find it”. Still my favourite quote! Now only to find a cheap plain tank…

This is the best documentary I’ve seen on society’s treatment of animals. Not only is it powerful,  but it is very informative in that it looks at the treatment of animals as pets, fashion, food, entertainment, and research. It is extremely difficult to watch, but I think it is very important for everyone to see. I hope you’ll take a look and pass it on for others to see as well!
